Lipcote Lipstick Sealer | Review

I discovered Lipcote when I was given it as a Christmas present, and completely forgot that I had it until I was searching for a bright lipstick the other day! I decided to give it a go, as smudging my lipstick or wiping if off by accident is something I'm very talented at. The Lipcote coat claims to create a clear layer of sealant on top of your lipstick to stop smudging and lipstick transference for a number of hours!

I have to admit, the smell of the coat did put me off a little, as it smells more like a nail varnish than something I would want to put on my lips - and if like me, you are someone who has a habit of licking their lips quite often, the taste is something that could probably take some getting used to. Despite this off putting smell, I decided to give it a go - after all, it can't be bad for you if it's something you are supposed to put on your lips right?

The lipstick that I used was one that I know I usually end up in a complete mess using, as it's such a vibrant colour and I have such a bad habit of forgetting I have lipstick on and licking my lips and smudging it all over my face, was one of last seasons colour which I'm still in love with! - the Maybelline Coloursensational Electric Orange: 912. For a lipstick, it's a really beautiful colour, and definitely one I can see myself using for a number of months in the summer. It's definitely a bright orange colour, there is no denying that - but it is just subtle enough to be something that would look really great as part of a day time make up look as well as part of an evening ensemble.

I made imprints of the lipstick, first (left) of the lipstick after putting on just one coat of the Electric Orange colour as I normally would, but making an imprint on a piece of paper rather than blotting the excess lipstick off. I then removed all the lipstick using a make up wipe from Simple, and then reapplied a similar coat of lipstick followed by the Lipcote sealant, once again without blotting, and made another imprint (right) after allowing the Lipcote to dry fully. I was also quite worried it would make my lipsticks look more like lip gloss and have a sticky feeling to it, but it was quite matte (not as matte as the lipstick on it's own, but very matte compared to a lip gloss) and it didn't feel sticky once dry at all and didn't reduce the colour of the lipstick either!

As you can see, despite it's off putting smell and slightly strange taste, Lipcote really does help to keep your lipstick colour bright and non-smudging! I was really impressed with this product, and once I've got used to the varnish smell and stopped worrying about it, it will be something I will use with all bright lipsticks.

Let me know in the comments below if you have tried Lipcote before or any other similar products you swear by!
